The Castello di Rivoli’s library is located in the Manica Lunga and specialises in 20th and 21st-century art.

The Library opened to the public in 1999 with an initial nucleus of publications collected since 1984 for the preparation of exhibitions and the development of cultural projects associated with the Museum.

Its holdings have increased through purchases, donations by private individuals and artists and especially thanks to the exchange of publications with leading museums, galleries, libraries and art foundations in Italy and abroad.

This constant increase in its holdings, with a particular focus on artists represented in the Museum’s collection, enables the Library to be one of the most well-supplied libraries of contemporary art in Italy.

It contains about 47,000 books divided into sections: contemporary art, photography, architecture, design and advertising from 1960 to the present day, and over 300 titles of periodicals, of which 50 are regular subscriptions.

Since 2009, the Castello di Rivoli Library is part of the Cobis Coordinamento delle Biblioteche Speciali e Specialistiche di Torino (a network of specialised libraries in the Turin area) (www.cobis.to.it).

Services available to the public

The Library catalogue, part of the Piedmontese group of SBN  (Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale, or National Library Service) since 2000, can be consulted online at www.librinlinea.it, www.sbn.it or by clicking here.

In the Library itself, there is Wi-Fi connection for the consultation of the on-line catalogue, a paper catalogue by author and title (updated to 2009) and a reference service.

Loaning is not allowed, but photocopies may be made of part of the documents up to the extent permitted by current legislation and in conformity with the conservation of the volumes.

Document delivery: a service is available for the delivery of photocopied documents, with request for reimbursement of costs, via the agency of a requesting library.

Interlibrary loan : the Library of the Castello di Rivoli effects interlibrary loan only for the book material of some sections of its collections.

This service is only available for Italy

The duration of the loan is limited to 40 days from the date of sending of the book.

One volume may be requested at a time.

Reimbursement of expenses will be required, and this is to be sent together with the book and duly signed and dated borrowing form, upon return of the volume.

Given that the Castello di Rivoli Library does not lend books to its readers, it is to be noted that these volumes should be consulted only upon the premises of the requesting library.

Multimedia Archive

The Castello di Rivoli’s Video library contains about 900 videos. These include works of some of the most important artists on the international scene, videos about the Museum’s activities and monographic documentaries on the history of art, architecture, dance and theatre.

The Video libraries holdings may be seen solely on the premises.
