Summer school 2020

The Education Department Castello di Rivoli has organised a special edition of Summer School this year. The weekly programs have been totally redesigned to accommodate small groups of children and young people, in line with safety rules and in a controlled environment. In the current emergency situation it is essential to support kids and their families, offering young people the opportunity to get out of isolation and spend a summer of rebirth, joy, awareness.

The Summer School is the ideal context for this to happen: it offers the unique opportunity to spend one’s free time immersed in nature, art and beauty at Castello di Rivoli, until the beginning of the next school year.

Already 10 years ago, the Education Department proposed for the first time in Italy the Summer School at the Museum, which today is a highly successful formula. The Department nowadays offers the community and territory its experience to give everyone many opportunities for growth and well-being, by travelling in the world of art.

The Artenaute (that’s how we call the Education Department professionals) at Castello di Rivoli are able to follow the children with particular attention and always in safety, counting on all the wide open spaces surrounding the Castle, such as the panoramic square, the lawn inside the Long Sleeve, the workshop area in the shadow of the old wisteria, in addition to the wonderful halls inside the Museum.

Exceptionally, this year we can take advantage of the Hill park nearby the Castle, a peaceful oasis where people can savor the joy of summer outdoors.

Courses, workshops, readings, playful activities are aimed to combine relaxation with the conscious elaboration of the current historical moment, in a positive way.

The theme of the 2020 edition is the relationship between Art and Nature, real or evoked, in a continuous dialogue between the landscape and the artworks of the Museum Collection, enriched by literary and poetic incursions.
Water – which flows in a poetic landscape in the work of Ettore Spalletti – air, fire and earth, the primary elements so important in the poetics of Arte Povera, the trees of Giuseppe Penone, the circle of Richard Long’s mud are part of the great apparatus that nourishes the cultural proposal, to rethink the vital context in the present moment.

Games focused on the concepts of space, time, measure, will allow children to better face the moment we are living, starting from the basic elements of nature and of the human body.

We wish to help them grow and increase their sensitivity, the sense of caring for themselves and for others as part of a whole. A sort of preparatory course for civic and therefore environmental education, which has always been part of the mission of the Castello di Rivoli Education Department.
Now as never before it is essential to relaunch these contents throughout society, because everyone’s behavior influences everyone’s lives and well-being.
