The video collection of Castello di Rivoli was established in 2001 with the goal of collecting and supporting video and film by artists, but also documentary movies on artists starting with the beginners of video art such as Nam June Paik, up to Bill Viola and, more recently, Vanessa Beecroft.
The methodology for selecting the films aims at presenting an international range of artists from the late 1960s to contemporary art, with a particular focus on Italian artists.
The video collection is composed of over 700 works e 130 documentaries purchased thanks to Compagnia di San Paolo. This nucleus is still growing and is actively involved in the exhibitios presented at the museum.
The texts relating to the video collection have been written forthe publication Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea. Video Art, Skira 2005, by Marcella Beccaria [M.B.] and Francesco Bernardelli [F.B.].
